A doctoral network for resolution pharmacology
HARPNET (Harnessing Resolution Pharmacology for Next-Generation Therapeutics) is a Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network coordinated by Queen Mary University of London. It brings together universities, hospitals and companies to study how inflammation resolves, and how that knowledge can become new treatments for rheumatoid arthritis and its cardiovascular complications.
The network trains 15 doctoral candidates in 12 host institutions across seven European countries, with a shared programme of research, secondments and training that runs from 2026 to 2029.

The challenge
Fifteen positions, one deadline
HARPNET signed its grant agreement in July 2026 and had to open recruitment within weeks. The call for 15 doctoral positions ran from 1 August to 1 October 2026, so the brand, the website and the application process all had to be ready from day one.
The content was demanding: fifteen projects with their supervisors, host institutions and work packages, the MSCA eligibility and mobility rules, a selection process in several stages, and a scientific idea that is new to most candidates: treating disease by helping inflammation resolve, not only by suppressing it.
The brief: a clear identity for a young network, and a website that explains the science, helps each candidate find the right project and collects every application in one place.
Brand identity
A joint and a heart, held in one circle
The symbol brings together the two sides of the research: a knee joint for rheumatoid arthritis and a heart for its cardiovascular complications, linked by a flowing S shape inside a circle.
Red stands for inflammation and blue for its resolution, the shift the whole network studies. Next to the symbol, a solid wordmark keeps the name clear on screens, slides and posters, with or without the full name of the project.
The palette is short: an inflammation red, a resolution blue and a deep navy, with a soft pink for the details of the symbol.

Website
From the science to the right project
We organised the site around the questions a candidate asks: what resolution pharmacology is, which projects are open, who hosts them and how to apply. Simple charts explain the science, and every project has its own page with its supervisor, host institution, country, work package and the skills it requires.
Built on WordPress, the site is fully responsive, GDPR compliant and easy for the network to update. After the deadline, the recruitment pages moved to a closed state, and the site now follows the network through its research, training and news.
Doctoral projects
All 15 projects in one list, with search and filters by work package, country and discipline.
The science
Resolution pharmacology explained with simple charts: how healthy inflammation resolves and what happens when it fails.
Structure
Six work packages and the boards that run the network, from supervision and training to dissemination.
Consortium
Beneficiaries and associated partners, each with its country, website and hosted projects.
Recruitment
Eligibility, the MSCA mobility rule, the selection stages and an indicative timeline, all on one page with a table of contents.
Newsroom
News and recruitment updates from across the network, filtered by category.
Application portal
One form for fifteen positions
Recruitment ran through an application portal built into the website. Candidates completed one form in eight sections: personal details, academic background, residence history, project preferences, motivation, referees, documents and consent. They could rank up to three projects, and the residence section opens extra periods only when needed, so the MSCA mobility rule can be checked for each choice. Word counters keep the motivation statements within limits, CVs and transcripts are uploaded with the form, and every application is stored in the website, ready to export for the selection panel.
The outcome
Recruitment opened on time
HARPNET launched with an identity, a website and an application portal ready for its first call. Candidates applied through the portal until 1 October 2026, and the network now has a home for its research, training and news until 2029.
