GLUCOTYPES | Visual Identity and Website
Glucose variability patterns for precision nutrition in diabetes
We created the identity and website for GLUCOTYPES, an EIC Pathfinder project funded by the European Union that studies blood sugar patterns to support precision nutrition in type 2 diabetes. One clear site for a consortium of seven partners across Europe and Israel.

The client
A European project on blood sugar patterns and precision nutrition
GLUCOTYPES (Glucose variability patterns for precision nutrition in diabetes) is an EIC Pathfinder project funded by the European Union under the challenge on precision nutrition in type 2 diabetes. Coordinated by the University of Copenhagen, it combines continuous glucose monitoring, molecular biology and machine learning to identify individual blood sugar patterns, the glucotypes, and lay the foundation for personalised nutrition.
The consortium brings together seven partners from Croatia, Denmark, Israel, the Netherlands, Spain and Belgium, and the project runs from October 2024 to September 2028.

The challenge
A new idea, explained from the start
When GLUCOTYPES started in October 2024, it had a strong scientific plan but no visual identity and no website. Both had to be ready early, to present the project to researchers, policy makers and the wider public.
The science is not simple: continuous glucose monitoring, glycoproteomics, the gut microbiome and machine learning, all working towards one idea, that people with similar blood sugar patterns may respond in similar ways to diet.
The brief: an identity built around glucose data, and a website that explains the project clearly, introduces the partners and keeps the European funding information visible on every page.

Brand identity
Glucose readings, drawn as a pattern
The symbol is a field of dots that rises and falls like a continuous glucose monitoring curve and turns into the G of the wordmark. Each dot is a reading; together they form the pattern the project is looking for.
A drop of blood sits inside the O, a small detail that links the name to glucose testing. The bold wordmark stays readable from a favicon to a conference banner, with a compact icon for avatars and social media.
The palette is short: a deep Dark Blue and a bright Cyan, the two colours of the brand manual, with a light ice blue for backgrounds.

Website
Clear science for every visitor
We organised the site around what each visitor needs to know: what the project is, how the research is structured, who the partners are and what has been published. The research approach is explained in five steps, from identifying glucotypes to a proof of concept clinical study.
Built on WordPress, the site is fully responsive, GDPR compliant and easy for the consortium to update. The footer keeps the project information always at hand: the grant agreement, the DOI and a bar that shows how far the project has come.
Meet the Partners
An interactive map and a directory of the seven partners, each with its address, country and website.
Research
The research approach in five steps, the six work packages and the results as they are published.
Precision Nutrition Portfolio
The eight EIC Pathfinder projects on precision nutrition side by side, with a link to each one.
News & Events
Updates, conferences and lab visits from across the consortium, filtered by category.
Resources
Logos, the brand manual, scientific publications and every newsletter issue, ready to download.
Newsletter
A subscribe button in the header and a sign up page, so anyone can follow the project milestones.
Meet the Partners
Seven partners on one map
The Partners page shows the whole consortium at a glance: a map with a marker for each institution and, below it, a clear directory with logos, addresses, countries and links. Click a marker and a card opens with the partner’s details, from Genos in Zagreb to the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot.
The outcome
A home for the project until 2028
GLUCOTYPES now has one identity across its website, newsletters, publications and events, and a website that grows with the project, from its first news to its scientific results. The site also links GLUCOTYPES to the other projects in the EIC Pathfinder Precision Nutrition Portfolio.
