Sustainable and Circular Bioeconomy for Portugal’s Inland Regions

Website for WinBio, a COMPETE 2020 collective action led by BLC3 that promotes the circular and sustainable bioeconomy in Portugal’s inland regions, with six partners and four value chains.

The client

A bioeconomy network for Portugal’s inland regions

WinBio (Waste&Interior&Bioeconomy) is a collective action project co-financed by COMPETE 2020, under the SIAC Collective Actions Support System, with an eligible investment of 762 thousand euros. It promotes the inland regions of Portugal, their companies and their products, and brings research results in the circular and sustainable bioeconomy closer to local businesses.

The project is coordinated by BLC3, in Oliveira do Hospital, together with five partners: CATAA, CEBAL, CECOLAB, Food4Sustainability CoLAB and TAGUSVALLEY. Its work covers the Centre, North and Alentejo regions and four value chains: forestry, agro-food, aquatic and other endogenous biological resources.

The challenge

Six partners, four value chains, one clear message

WinBio needed a website that could present a broad, technical subject to entrepreneurs and companies in inland territories, and give each partner a fair place on the page. It also had to support a busy calendar of open days, workshops and webinars, and keep the funding information of COMPETE 2020, Portugal 2020 and the European Regional Development Fund visible on every page.

The brief: a fresh, welcoming site in two languages, built around the existing WinBio identity, that feels close to the landscape it talks about.

WinBio website pages: About, Home and Partners

Website

The landscape on the first screen

The homepage opens with aerial footage of granite peaks and a reservoir in the interior of Portugal, playing behind the project name. Below it, the four value chains appear as large photo cards that turn on hover to explain the role of each partner.

Built on WordPress in Portuguese and English, the site is fully responsive, GDPR compliant and easy for the consortium to update, with the logos of COMPETE 2020, Portugal 2020 and the European Union in the footer of every page.

Value chains

Four cards for the forestry, agro-food and aquatic chains and other endogenous biological resources, each with what the partners will do.

About

The four project activities and the goals for the Centre, North and Alentejo regions, explained in plain words.

Partners

The six partners with their logos, a short profile and a link to each website.

News and Events

Open days, workshops and webinars across the partners’ campuses, with dates and places.

Communications

Newsletters and press coverage in one place, filtered by type.

Newsletter

A sign up form in the footer of every page, so companies never miss the next open day.

The outcome

One address for the whole network

WinBio gave its six partners a single home for the project: a bilingual website that explains the bioeconomy in plain words, announces every event and keeps newsletters, press coverage and results together.
